"Shut your trap and let me have the floor!" Several weeks ago I had the immense pleasure of meeting an extremely charming couple from West Texas. At the time, I had no idea I was making chit-chat with a REAL LIFE TEXAS COWBOY! No no, not the "cowboys" you see at Gilley's. I mean a real, working, cattle-herding, chaps-wearin' cowboy! Here are the pictures to prove it too! Anyhoo, I tossed their CD into the "listen to later" pile and went on about my business. Just call me Dumbass. A few days ago, I looked at said pile and thought, what the hell, let's give ol' A.W. Love a listen. I was wowed, to say the least. You see, when you are in this business long enough, you come to learn that almost everyone is singer or a songwriter or a musician or they have a niece who can really tear a hole into "The Sun'll Come Up..." blah, blah, blah. A.W. is the real deal - and that's in every aspect of his life. He's a real REAL good singer and an even better songwriter. "West Texas Dreams" is a dream come true for Texas Country music lovers. Track 1, "Farewell to Misery" starts out strong, both musically and lyrically. The song talks about a beer-guzzlin', chain-smokin' "Dancehall Queen" who is packed up and leaving when he comes home. You can hear A.W.'s sense of humor with lyrics like "I'm hopin' you don't sober up and find your way back home..." Good stuff. Jilted lovers, longing for West Texas, "Sweet Revenge", and even life-long love make up "West Texas Dreams." It's a perfect Texas Country CD, sweet and damn funny much of the time. I really hope this guy gets some breaks, cuz he's good. Texas Music Guide says: Artist: A.W. Love |
